Tension mounts on Roo tour
Tension between the Kangaroos and Great Britain was simmering with Australian Rugby League boss Colin Love ready to demand an explanation as to why video footage against Lions hooker Terry Newton wasn't made available after the first Test.
Australia wanted action taken against Newton for borderline tackles on Craig Fitzgibbon and Darren Lockyer on Saturday night, however, the video evidence made available to the committee was inconclusive and Newton walked away scot-free.
The Kangaroos eventually uncovered clearer footage but under international regulations a player must be cited within 30 minutes of the end of the game and the ARL is now powerless to do anything.
However, Love is intent on making sure it doesn't happen again.
"I'm more upset about the fact that the match review committee that reviewed the incident didn't have all the tapes and the tape in relation to Newton," Love said.
"The tapes they were shown were inconclusive.
"I'll be demanding an explanation from the Rugby Football League as to why that happened. We have to protect the integrity of the game and I am not going to see our players subjected to cheap shots."
Feeling was running high in the Australian camp following Newton's antics in the opening Test at Wigan and they reached boiling point when Adrian Morley walked away from an international judiciary with only a slap on the wrist for his high tackle on Robbie Kearns.
Morley was fined STG2000 ($A4,684), prompting Australian coach Chris Anderson to claim a Great Britain series win was being put above the image of the game.
"It's disappointing for the game," Anderson said
