Shell-shocked Waratahs blow it
The NSW Waratahs saw their 21-point lead blown away by a second-half tryscoring blitz by the Stormers at Aussie Stadium, losing the Super 12 clash 39-29.
The resurgent Stormers ran in four tries, with never-say-die skipper Corne Krige leading the charge, to steal the win from the shellshocked Waratahs.
The courageous Krige played the last 10 minutes with broken ribs to see his side home.
NSW surged to a 21-0 lead after 15 minutes, running in three tries in a seven minute period to take control of the match.
But the Waratahs' race was run early and the injury-ravaged Stormers, who were expected to fade in the second half, did anything but.
Halfback Neil de Kock started the fightback when a long ball by Bolla Conradie found him waiting in the wings and he raced the length of the field to touch down six minutes into the second half.
Busy NSW winger Lote Tuqiri again extended his side's lead to 29-20 with his second try of the night when he showed a burst of speed to run on to a beautifully timed ball from five-eighth Shaun Berne, but it was the last moment of joy for the home side.
Three Stormers tries - the last by rampaging lock Quinton Davids with eight minutes left in the match - sealed the result.
Both sides played most of the final 10 minutes a man down after NSW replacement Ryan McGoldrick was sinbinned for foul play, quickly followed by Stormers centre Robbie Fleck for a high tackle.
The Waratahs will rue a number of missed opportunities, with handling errors and poor options again playing a role in their downfall.
