Thorpe beats Hoogie in 200m
World record holder Ian Thorpe took his revenge on arch rival Pieter van den Hoogenband, swimming a new European record time in the men's 200m freestyle final at the FINA World Cup meeting.
Thorpe was trailing the Dutchman in the early stages of the race but overtook him just after halfway to win in 1min41.86sec.
Van den Hoogenband was second in 1:43.16.
Thorpe's time was 0.76sec outside his world record.
