McKenzie backs his pack
Attack our scrum at your peril.
That's the message from Ewen McKenzie to the Crusaders, with the Waratahs coach sure the home side fancies its chances of dismantling the NSW pack in Saturday's Super 12 rugby final in Christchurch.
The Waratahs may have held, then overpowered, the giant Bulls eight in last week's semi-final but McKenzie believes the Crusaders will call on memories of their last clash with the Waratahs in Sydney.
"My guess is that they will target our scrum," McKenzie said.
"We had a couple of lazy scrums against them last time and I think they will have a crack at our scrum.
"They have an All Black forward pack so they'll back themselves to have a crack there but we are happy for that to happen.
"We are certainly looking forward to that part of the game."
The powerful Crusaders forwards held together better than the Waratahs in their 33-27 win at Aussie Stadium last month but McKenzie feels that his scrum has lifted since.
Even Crusaders captain Richie McCaw conceded it had improved after watching them against the Bulls.
"We've always looked at their scrum but last weekend they went bloody well against the big Bulls team," McCaw said.
