Sonny Bill signs $800,000 Bulldogs deal
Teenage sensation Sonny Bill Williams has re-signed with the Bulldogs until at least the end of the 2007 season in a two-year deal worth up to $800,000, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The New Zealand international was yet to put pen to paper, but the newspaper said Bulldogs chief executive Malcolm Noad was planning to announce the re-signing of the injured 19-year-old as early as Thursday.
The completion of the deal may be delayed until next week after blood tests confirmed that Williams and Australian Test centre Willie Tonga had mumps.
The reported re-signing comes after English rugby league club St Helens offered Williams a deal equivalent to $900,000 a season.
The newspaper said the Bulldogs initially sought to re-sign Williams for five years and their most recent offer was for three.
But it said the new deal did not include an upgrade for this season of Williams' current $100,000 annual contact, signed as a 17-year-old in 2002.
