Inzy warms to shortened game
Pakistan captain Inzamam ul-Haq predicted Twenty20 cricket would become the most popular form of cricket within two years.
His comments came after Australia A blitzed Pakistan by 56 runs in the first Twenty20 international match in Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
The three-hour game attracted a bumper crowd of 21,254, ensuring the 20-over concept has a future in Australia, following on from Wednesday night's sellout at the WACA for a game between Western Australia and Victoria.
Inzamam felt the shortened version of the game was particularly attractive for fans.
"I think after four or five years this will be the most popular game, (compared to) 50-over games and Test matches," he said.
"Now it's very popular.
"After one or two years it will be the most popular game.
"Because life is so busy and people have no time to see the five-day game, when there are soccer games that are one-and-a-half hours.
"People like this game and the players are also enjoying the game."
Asked whether he thought it would replace the 50-over game, he laughed and said: "I hope so".
