Magpies' Maxwell says he might face Cats
Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell says he might make his AFL injury comeback against Geelong at the MCG on Friday night.
The best-case scenario was initially considered a return for the start of the finals, after the Magpies skipper fractured his thumb against St Kilda in round 21.
But Maxwell said his recovery had gone extremely well and a Friday night return was a possibility, although no certainty.
"I've got some boxes to tick tomorrow at training and then (coach) Mick (Malthouse) will make his decision," Maxwell said on the club's website on Wednesday.
"It's going really well to this point. I actually did a lot of training yesterday and I'll train again tomorrow.
"I've been super-impressed by how it's come along to this point, and how much I've been able to do.
"So hopefully, I can just keep ticking those boxes each day and I'll be back sooner rather than later."
While the Magpies are guaranteed the minor premiership, Maxwell said they planned to field their best available side against the Cats, aside from players with injury niggles.
