Blues to be named a day early
NSW coach Ricky Stuart says his State of Origin side will be named a day earlier than expected to get a head start on their preparations.
The Blues were to be named at halftime during Monday night's clash between Gold Coast and Manly at Skilled Park.
But Stuart says he has received the backing of Titans coach John Cartwright and Sea Eagles boss Des Hasler to make the announcement on Sunday.
Although the team is almost certainly decided before the Monday night kickoff, it means Gold Coast and Manly stars won't have any last minute chance to impress Stuart and selection adviser Bob Fulton.
"I'm very fortunate that Des Hasler and Johnny Cartwright, both ex-players (for NSW), have endorsed this announcement," Stuart told Network Ten.
"It gives us an extra day-and-a-half.
"I just feel it was a great acknowledgment from both Johnny and also Des that they saw how important it was to get the team into camp a day earlier and get on the front foot."
An official schedule is expected to be finalised with NSWRL boss Geoff Carr on Tuesday.
