Idris debut Test try a beauty
Rookie Jamal Idris took his mum's advice in Friday night's Test against New Zealand and came up with a memorable try on debut.
"Happy days. I just did what my mum said 'catch the ball and run hard'," said the raw boned 20-year-old, breaking into a huge smile.
His wrecking ball try, which iced Australia's 20-10, will go down as one of the best on debut for Australia.
The 115kg Idris scattered Kiwi defenders like bowling pins, smashing his way over the line at a packed Skilled Park, which will be his new home with the Titans next season.
Idris had earlier been penalised for taking out Kiwi winger Jason Nightingale who later had recollection of the game after crashing heavily onto his shoulder.
The dread-locked giant had gone on to replace left centre Greg Inglis who injured his hip in the first half.
"It was the best feeling in the world," said Idris.
"I can't really compare it to anything. When I ran on I was a bit dazed.
"The first 15 minutes I kept looking at JT (Johnathan Thurston) and thinking this is the fastest game on the planet."
Idris said he felt bad about his mistimed collision with the airborne Nightingale.
"It was a bit of an accident but I was going in hard,
"As soon as he got up I was glad he was alright."
Fellow rookie Jharal Yow Yeh also celebrated his debut with a try in front of his family who travelled from all parts of the state.
He still had his Australian jumper on an hour after the game.
"I don't think I'll sleep tonight," said the 21 year-old.
"If I do, I'll probably wear the jumper to bed."
