I'll take my time over contract: Idris
Canterbury star Jamal Idris says he's in no hurry to make a decision on which NRL club he'll play with beyond this season.
Idris is arguably the most in-demand player on the market and will choose from at least four clubs chasing his signature.
As well as the Bulldogs, rivals Newcastle, Gold Coast and Cronulla have all signalled their interest in the giant centre.
"Personally there's no timeline for me," Idris told reporters on Thursday.
"It's a big decision in my life involving my whole family, it's a big decision in my career so I've got to take my time to make that decision.
"It's not just where I can click my fingers and know what I'm doing."
The Knights are in a state of flux as control of the club passes to the Tinkler Sports Group, with chief executive Steve Burraston quitting on Wednesday.
Newcastle reportedly tabled an offer to Idris before members overwhelmingly voted for the club's privatisation last week.
"No one's putting pressure on me and that's credit to all the clubs as well, that's good on them," Idris said.
"They understand that it's a big decision in my life and I'm turning 21 in July, this could decide me for a few more years after this.
"I'm lucky I'm the kind of bloke that doesn't get fazed by much so I just tend to think about the game coming up."
The NRL pin-up boy was mobbed by a group of Bulldogs-supporting schoolkids after training on Thursday but it appears even they won't be able to sway Idris.
"It's good to have fans like that, I think they make the game and I hope there's fans like that all over Australia, which I think there is," he said.
Idris will play on the Sydney Cricket Ground for the first time on Sunday in the heritage round clash with St George Illawarra.
After comprehensively outplaying South Sydney big gun Greg Inglis three weeks ago, the NSW State of Origin contender will mark up on international Matt Cooper - but he doesn't want to think about Origin hopes yet.
"He's a good player, he gets better with age, doesn't he," Idris said.
"I think footy's about the challenges and there's a lot of players out there that enjoy it and hopefully I can go out there and have a good game.
"It would be good too (Origin) but, in saying that, I'm playing for the Bulldogs this week aren't I, I'm not playing for NSW."
