Agents to learn fate over Storm rort
The fates of player agents alleged to have been involved in the salary cap rort at the Melbourne Storm will become clearer in the coming days.
The NRL's player agent accreditation scheme committee will meet on Thursday night to consider what have been reported to be serious allegations about several agents' behaviour.
Four high-profile agents, representing a large proportion of the NRL's stars, were named by Fairfax last month.
The committee will discuss legal advice it sought on an NRL report about the $3.17 million Storm salary cap breach.
The results of the discussion are likely to be made public on Friday morning.
Agents found to have a case to answer will be asked to show cause as to why their accreditation should not be revoked.
Agents are not allowed to negotiate NRL contracts for their clients if they are not accredited.
Other penalties, ranging from a reprimand upwards, could also apply.
"The issue of player agents' activities arising out of the Melbourne Storm investigation is a matter on the agenda at the committee meeting which is to take place on the 17th of March," committee chairman Geoff Bellew told AAP.
"It is anticipated that the committee will receive and consider the opinion or the advice of Senior Counsel who has been retained to advise it in relation to these issues.
"Once that advice has been received and considered, the committee will then determine what, if any, further action is warranted."
The committee will not discuss player agent Sam Ayoub, who has been charged with defrauding a betting agency, as it awaits the outcome of that case.
