Gold Coast Football Club expect more debate over the club's theme song than their playing strip or nickname when they're revealed at a gala AFL function on Thursday night.

The AFL's 17th team in waiting will unveil their colours, moniker, which is likely to be The Suns as the domain has been registered by the AFL, three jumper designs and an original club theme song for their 2011 entry into the competition.

Club spokesman Greg Price said the club song was not a re-working of another melody, like so many of the AFL club songs, and would be entirely original and the words would take in the club's relatively short history.

"You can expect to hear something tomorrow night," Price said.

"It's probably something people will have the most opinion on.

"It needs to be something that stirs the passion in the supporters and we look for a bit of tradition and symbolism of where we come from.

"It will be an original track."

More than 600 guests, mainly members, sponsors and AFL and club officials will attend the Rise Up celebration dinner at the Southport Sharks Function Centre on the Gold Coast.

The event will also be telecast from 8.20pm (AEST) on the club's website.

The three playing strips to be unveiled are a home, an away and a clash jumper.

Price said fans could expect them to be easily identified with the Gold Coast and the colours would be similar if not the same as the red (sun), blue (water/sky) and yellow (sand) they now wore in the VFL competition.

"It's been a long process - the jumper the guys are wearing now is only an interim jumper for the TAC CUP and the VFL season," he said.

"There will be a mixture of tradition, if you can say two years is tradition, and some very new thinking in terms of home and away and clash strips."

He said club apparel manufacturer Reebok had a major role in helping design the jumper and they would be available to fans before just before Christmas.
