Kenny-Dowall has faith in Roosters
Sydney Roosters winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall says the club's youngsters must use the memories of this disappointing NRL season to make them stronger.
Kenny-Dowall enjoyed an outstanding first full campaign in 2008 by scoring 15 tries in 19 games.
But like the rest of his team, he has struggled to replicate that form this year with the Roosters, who are on course to pick up their first wooden spoon since 1966.
"We learnt a lot about winning last year but this season it has been tough for us," Kenny-Dowall told AAP.
"But in many ways you learn more about yourself as a player and a person in defeat.
"We are one of the youngest teams in the NRL and we have learnt things the hard way, but I think it's good for everyone to experience this and to come through it better on the other side."
Kenny-Dowall was one of 10 Roosters players aged 22 or under who featured in Friday's 34-12 defeat by table-topping St George Illawarra.
Despite the Roosters sitting at the bottom of the ladder, he said the future is still looking bright.
"We are still very much learning as a team and one of the things we are struggling with at the moment is how to put teams away when we are in front," the New Zealand international said.
"I think we have been really competitive for the last couple of games, but we haven't been able to put it together for 80 minutes which is disappointing.
"But things can turn around for us. This is a tough competition to play in and we are learning so much from each game.
"St George are the best team in the NRL and for the first half we were better than them. That is encouraging for us."
Kenny-Dowall says having immortal Arthur Beetson around the club again assisting Brad Fittler is a great boost.
"He earns instant respect. The boys listen to him and it is good to have him alongside the camp," Kenny-Dowall said.
"Defensively we have been stronger since he came on board and he is someone I have definitely learnt from."
