Roos puts Swans on notice against Crows
Coach Paul Roos says Sydney won't make the same mistake this week of picking an unfit player, following Jared Crouch's "wooden-leg" effort against Collingwood.
Roos was scathing in his criticism of Crouch on Saturday night after the defender insisted he was fit and then struggled to make any impact against the Magpies.
"He had the knee strapped up. He only trained for 20 minutes last week," Roos said on Monday.
"It was a collective decision but you back your players and in this case it just backfired.
"We are just going to have to pick 22 players who are really fit. We shouldn't have picked Crouchy."
While Crouch will need to train well this week to retain his place for the 11th-placed Swans against the sixth-placed Crows in Adelaide on Saturday night, club champion Jarrad McVeigh is in some doubt.
McVeigh played on against Collingwood despite suffering a painful shoulder injury, while defender Craig Bolton may miss a second match with a knee complaint.
"If Craig's not fit, there's no point in taking him to Adelaide," Roos added.
Crouch's fellow thirty-something Mick O'Loughlin is also coming off a poor game and Roos admits the 32-year-old forward is struggling.
The games record-holder has kicked only eight goals this year in seven games for a career total of 505 in 293 matches.
But Roos has blamed Sydney's poor delivery to their forwards.
"Our ability to make decisions under pressure is certainly not as good again that comes back to having a different team than in 2005 and 2006 and 2007," Roos said.
"That's going to come when guys get used to playing with each other.
"Mick (O'Loughlin) is really struggling.
"Part of it is that Micky getting used to Nick Smith and Ed Barlow ... and guys like that coming through the midfield.
"Our forward entries on the weekend were terrible.
"It was good to have a lot of younger guys playing in a big game and gain some real experience, because that's the only way you can really fast-track your ability to get back up the ladder.
"If we were to drop this game (against Adelaide) that makes it five and eight. That probably does give you the opportunity to accelerate that a little bit."
Roos is keen to give Patrick Veszpremi another run in the seniors after making his debut last year, but the 19-year-old forward has battled injuries including rolling his ankle in the reserves last weekend.
