Mullen awaits results of shoulder scan
Jarrod Mullen's State of Origin aspirations could depend on the results of scans on the shoulder he injured in Newcastle's NRL defeat by Wests Tigers on Sunday.
Mullen played in agaony for most of the 26-24 defeat after popping his shoulder midway through the first half.
He will find out the extent of the injury on Tuesday after undergoing a scan on Monday.
The 22-year-old halfback played in the 2007 State of Origin series and has been widely tipped for a return for NSW for this season's opener in Melbourne of June 3.
Newcastle ended the game with a long casualty list with Ben Cross (biceps) Wes Naiqama (hamstring), Ben Rogers (knee) and Junior Sau (sternum) all suffering injuries.
Prop Cross is in danger of missing the rest of the season after tearing his biceps and will also discover his fate on Tuesday.
St George Illawarra lock Ben Creagh has been given the all clear after being forced off the field in the second half of the Dragons' 29-0 win over Sydney Roosters on Saturday.
Creagh sustained a cork behind his knee, but is expected to be fit to face the Warriors at WIN Stadium, Woollongong on Sunday.
The Roosters have also been boosted by the news Sisa Waqa has been cleared of any serious injury after he was carried off after just five minutes with a back injury.
Waqa collapsed in a heap seconds after a tackling Jason Nightingale, but the injury was only a back spasm and the winger will be in contention to start against Cronulla on Saturday.
