Referee Klein confirmed for NRL season
Controversial World Cup final referee Ashley Klein has been confirmed to officiate in this year's NRL premiership.
Klein, who had a well-publicised run-in with former Australia coach Ricky Stuart at a Brisbane hotel after the Kangaroos' shock loss to New Zealand, has accepted an offer to join the NRL's full-time squad of referees after spending the past six seasons in the English Super League.
"To be given the chance to referee in the NRL is a dream for me and I can't wait to get to Australia and begin training with the other officials," Klein said in a statement.
"It's a great challenge for me, especially with the two-referee system in place for this year, and it is one I am looking forward to."
Referees boss Robert Finch welcomed Klein into the NRL ranks.
"Ashley is a great addition to our team and adds depth and experience to our full-time squad," Finch said.
Klein will join the NRL referees squad in the next few weeks.
