No recruitment deadlines for Mitchell
Perth rugby coach John Mitchell says he won't be affected by any deadlines imposed by Australia's Super 12 rugby teams and is no hurry to complete his inaugural roster.
Mitchell returned to Sydney as he continued his quest to bring players to the fledgling franchise which will make its debut in the first Super 14 competition next year.
Former All Blacks coach Mitchell concluded what he described as a "an excellent day and a half" in Queensland where he spoke to several Reds.
While he has already met with players from NSW and Queensland, Mitchell said he intended waiting until the Brumbies' bye week in late April before approaching any players from the roster of the defending Super 12 champion.
Mitchell confirmed he had met with outstanding young lock Hugh McMeniman at 7am Thursday.
He said he would be "not at all" affected by the deadline set by Queensland Rugby Union chief executive Theo Psaros who wanted the off-contract Reds to decide their future prior to Friday week's home game with the Highlanders.
"We know the deadline that certain players have requested and the players are also privy to our deadlines," Mitchell said.
"We are in no hurry, we've got to find the right people, I don't care if it takes as long October 1."
Mitchell said the purpose of his visit was not to speak directly to NSW players, as he had already spoken to a number of the Waratahs on a previous visit last week after they returned from the South African leg of their Super 12 campaign.
"This week is more about catching up with some of the agents and identifying some of the players that we'd like to target."
